On 26 November 2015, the eighth Forum Media Technology is going to take place at UAS St. Pölten offering an ideal platform for presentation, discussion, criticism and exchange of innovative ideas and current challenges in the field of digital media.
The conference is going to pursuit an interdisciplinary approach and is going to take into account new technological possibilities and creative designs as well as content-related ideas and economic requirements. The whole digital production process starting from the idea to conception, production, distribution, realization and archiving of media content intends to attract interest.
The Forum Media Technology aims at fostering an intensive dialogue between experts working at agencies, studios and production companies and students, lecturers, researchers and developers and at providing a basis of new cooperation. In an informal setting, current results of research and development, scientific findings, creative ideas for new formats and services, innovative tools and prototypes for the production of digital media, as well as case studies and experience from practical application are going to be presented.
Next to the presentation of selected papers, panels and invited keynotes, the focus is placed on the personal encounter of colleagues in this industry and time and space is provided for informal conversations. The intersection of our habitats by omnipresent digital technologies has become a(n apparent) matter of course by now: multifunctional mobile end devices, broadband networks, new forms of interaction with machines, new means of distribution, consumption and archiving of audiovisual contents, new experiences from innovative developments of communication in social networks, … . The user behaviour has changed as fast as the familiar workflows for conception, production and development of formats, content and tools. For many years, the media production was characterized by mainly linear, hierarchical and structural processes requiring well-defined skills and fields of action.
In recent years, these processes have quickly been replaced by cyclic disciplines, cross-linking and open approaches. The young generation of “Digital Natives” already commands high user skills and easily makes use of current media technologies in every day life, while experienced experts often complain about a too little reflected vicissitude, a(n apparent) loss of quality and an (allegedly) increasing superficiality and miss sustainable discussions of concepts and contents. In spite of being overtaken by the fast advancing developments, further education as well as the economy, research and development only partly manage to leave their usual paths and disregarding the high convergence of digital media they seem to stick to old processes and industry networks. In any case, the rapid change creates new huge challenges for agencies, studios and production companies as well as for universities and institutions of further education and of research and development.
Thus, the Forum Media Technology intentionally puts its focus on a wide range of content to promote the urgently necessary exchange between the various disciplines.
